News: Taffy, Ross and Bailey Are Ready for Action in Their New Shoes
Date Added: 01/04/2014 @ 1:48pm
The countdown to the first horse-drawn barge trip of the season is well and truly on and our horses are restless after their winter break.
A recent visit from our farrier Rodney Grant saw all our horses - Taffy, Ross and Bailey get their first pair of shoes for the season.
When working they need a new pair of shoes every 4/6 weeks depending upon ware; so our farrier is a regular visitor to Tiverton Canal Company who helps to look after our beautiful horses.
Lucky Horseshoes
Horseshoes are often thought to bring good luck. Some believe that hanging the shoe with the ends pointing upwards stores good luck in the shoe and bad luck if the ends point down as luck will fall out. Others believe that a horseshoe should be hung with the ends down, as it will release its luck to the people around it. Superstitious sailors believed that nailing a horseshoe to the mast would help their boats avoid storms.
Which way up would you hang your horseshoe?
