Although the Grand Western Canal suffered a large Breach in 2012 there is still plenty of water in the canal either side of the breach site, allowing businesses like the Horse-Drawn Barge to continue trading without being affected at all.

Devon County Council has now pledged £3 million for the repair of the breach site in time for the canal's bicentenary celebrations. 2014 is also the year that the Horse-Drawn Barge celebrates 40 years since its start-up July 1974.
