If you have visited us before you may remember one of our previous horses; Ben, Captain, Duke, Ernie, Gavin, Jim, and Prince, if you have any photos we would love to see them.
Hi I'm David Poxon, I am the horseman at Tiverton Canal Company. My job is to look after the horses and make sure they are happy in their work. If you would like to know more about our horses, Message Me or visit our Heavy Horses Facebook Group: Heavy Horses UK.
Taffy was the smallest of them all . . . He stood at just 15hs and born in January 1998. he was a Welsh Cob Section D x Shire. Welsh Cobs are well know for our strength, hardiness, agility and good looks! . . His good looks won the BBC Countryfile Photo Competition in 2012 (Very Sadly Taffy past away in 2016)
Hi, I'm Ross, the baby of the group, but the biggest of them all, as I'm a Shire horse. We are reputed be the biggest breed of heavy horse and I stand 17.1 hs high and was born in June 2005. Unlike the traditional Shires that pulled the drays for the brewerys, I have a unique romany nose.
My breed is Clysdedale, I'm 16.1hs and was born in January 1999. We are normally seen in the Household Cavalry carrying the big drums, We are a rare breed now and classified as 'at risk' by the Rare Breeds Survival Trust, but I am also rare myself, because of my two blue eyes and unique colour: "red roan".
